Night and Day
My kids are like night and day and have been since they were babies. Hannah was a cranky, fussy, colicky bugger for the first 3 months or so of her life. I could not take her anywhere without wanting to run out, crying with her. I remember I was in Wal-Mart and trying to calm her down while standing in line to check out. A lady tapped me on the shoulder and told me I should really try gas drops. Ugh. But despite that, she was a great sleeper. Of course she did the normal midnight, 2am, 4am stuff for a while. But around 4 months old she started sleeping 11 - 12 hour nights. I also could put her down, awake, in her crib and she would sooth herself to sleep. She was a.dream!
She talked early. She never (and I really mean this ... I am just not saying this because she is my kid. I will fess up when my kid does something wrong) touched things she was not suppose to. If I told her "no no" then she knew that it was off limits. She listened so well for a baby/toddler. Hannah has never acted her age. Ever.
Then along came Hayden. I knew that I would never get lucky twice in the sleep department. Boy was I right. He was such a boob man and wanted to use me as a pacifier. If I did not take them away after a feeding at night, he would have camped out there all night long. He was a good napper, but he needed me to sooth him to sleep. He needed me all night long, hence why we coslept. That was the only way we both got half way decent sleep. And despite all that, The Boy never cried. He was such a happy baby. He was content and I could take him anywhere. No gas drop recommendations for that boy!
Now they are 9 and 6. She is sassy. She is stubborn. She is reserved, yet dominant. My daughter is methodical. She thinks everything out. She has determination like no other. And she pretty much still does not do things that she should not do/say. However, she has a way of getting what she wants in a round about way. She is a tough cookie to break. And more so than not she is all her dad.
And The Boy. He is tender-hearted. He is easy going and a push over. He adores his sister and takes all her "bossiness". He is a pleaser, through and through, sometimes to a fault. He is not a morning person and needs his sleep (how ironic). He thinks his mom and dad hung the moon. He is the kind of child that honestly does very little wrong. If I tell him that his room is a mess and to get busy he is already picking up before the sentence is complete. Though that is not to say he does a good job or finishes the task. The Boy is definitely more like his momma. Poor kid.
Two kids from the same parents with two very different personalities. I treasure each one. I appreciate their uniqueness. I love them with my whole heart.

When life gets in the way
Lately I have been so consumed with all that daily life entails. The other night we were painting and I stopped, grabbed my camera and took some shots of the kids playing on the ladder.

Sometimes life gets in the way of the simple stuff. As you can see they both loved the attention, even if a flash was going off in their face. For some reason the red eye reduction didn't work so well on the first shot of Hannah. But I love my kids eyes. And those lashes. I don't think Hannah will be needing mascara!
It is so hard to believe that in 2 short days it will be 8 weeks since I last saw my grandmother. I miss her so much.
Not too much else to blog about. I hope everyone is enjoying spring!

A week? Really?
Life has been busy as usual and I just logged into my blog to see I have not posted in a week. I am sure many of you are sick of looking at my tulips.
Speaking of those tulips, they did not last 4 full days. =( I hate that about flowers. But there were pretty while they lasted.
The floor is just about done. Now we have to paint, install new base boards and slowly add in new pictures, area rugs and some curtains. Amazingly it was pretty easy to install and I love the new look.
I have been lazy about taking pictures lately. I am trying to get over my aversion for being IN pictures. That is one thing I learned from my Nana's passing. Take pictures, lots of them, because there will come a time when that is all you will have of your loved one.
Yesterday we celebrated mine and my sister's birthday. We are exactly one week apart. I love that. Not only are we super close, but to share a birthday month is special. And to know that she turns one year older right along with me eases the blow a bit! tee hee.

Seriously?

Is it really that time again? Another year down. I am now entering my 36th year ... wow only 4 more years till 40. That just does not seem possible. I mean I don't feel almost 40! I just know this coming year is going to bring with it something grande. So another year down, but as the English Proverb says "The older the fiddler, the sweeter the tune." So.very.true.

Quiet ...
Certainly that does not define my life, but for some reason I have not had the interest to blog. It is not for lack of anything but ... well laziness in a sense. I have been wearing many different hats as of late and really I am not complaining. Staying busy keeps it real. I work best when I have tons to do, though not without some hair pulling moments. The kids and school keep me the most busy these days. But when we are not doing school we are interacting in other ways. Being with them and my husband is pure joy for me. They are what keep me sane. And content.
I took the kids to the park the other day and forgot my camera. That is a shame really as I would have gotten some great pics of my son complaining of "dying of thirst". Oh the faces he can make when he is unhappy about something. I also missed some great shots of my daughter being silly and crazy. I love watching them when they don't know it. I love to listen to the stories and conversations they have. Though I can honestly say I could do without the sibling stuff. Oye!
The next few days will come with more craziness, but really what is better in life? Quiet will happen soon enough and I am in no hurry for it.

Some birthday pics and new floor in progress
We took the kids on Monday to Build a Bear and dinner for their birthday. We all had so much fun. Here are a few pics while at dinner (I am still learning my new camera so some of these shots did not come out as I intended)

We finally yanked the carpet (I hate carpet) in our living room. Here is the progress we have made so far. I absolutely love the flooring we picked out, it is a hardwood floating floor. I will post a pic when we are done.
